Since the early 1970s, when the Code of Safe Practice for Ships Carrying Timber Deck Cargoes was first developed by IMO, casualties involving the shifting and loss of timber cargoes have continued to occur, larger and more sophisticated ships have come into service and new techniques have been introduced.
The new Code was adopted by the
IMO Assembly at its 17th session (November 1991) by resolution A.715(17).
