Of all the international conventions dealing with maritime safety, the most important is the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS), which covers a wide range of measures designed to improve the safety of shipping.

SOLAS on CD (v7.0) provides a consolidated English text of the Convention, its Protocols of 1978 and 1988 and amendments as of 1 July 2009.

A comprehensive cross-referencing and indexing system allows the user to navigate easily between the provisions of the Convention, its annex and related texts. Pages of the text and of the on-screen manual can be printed out.
